Jamie and I had the opportunity to do a “behind the scenes” tour at Kennedy Space Center. Jamie was invited to speak about African honey bees at one of their employee safety seminars. It really is amazing what honey bees have allowed us to do.
First of all, we had to clear security and get name tags to wear for the day. Notice the “NASA Special Guest.” We thought we were pretty cool.
They had a guy who used to be on the launch and landing team take us around. We started by checking out Atlantis at the orbiter processing facility. This was the shuttle that made the last and final trip to space. I do not know or claim to know any of the technical lingo that was used during our tour. I’m going to keep my narration very simple!

It was a really cool day. Jamie is still bubbling over about how cool it was. The people who hosted us we very kind. The director of the center presented Jamie with a framed collage of mission photos. It’s now hanging in Mathias’ room. The kids did not go on this adventure with us but they are still talking about space shuttles and trips to space. Even Analy can explain and act out what happens when a shuttle takes off.
